Winter in Kansas City is magical. From the time honored tradition of the Plaza Lights ceremony, to the buzz of excitement and anticipation of the first snow fall, or maybe it’s the anticipation of the first snow day from school, either way, Kansas City has it all. We are excited to share our five favorite winter activities in Kansas City.
Worlds of Fun has been transformed into a winter wonderland. Families can enjoy limited rides, indulge in Mrs. Claus’ kitchen, or enjoy one of the many attractions or shows being performed. Be sure to check the Worlds of Fun calendar of events before heading out to this inaugural favorite winter activity.
Ice skating next the glow of the historic Mayor’s Christmas Tree tops our list of favorite winter activities in Kansas City. This fun family tradition highlights winter, beginning November 3, and ending March 11. While you are there, it is worth the walk across the street to experience the festivities of Christmas at the Crown Center.
Just north of Kansas City, in Weston, MO, lies Tornado Alley Tube Park at the village of Snow Creek. Snow Creek is located on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River and is home to the areas only tube and ski resort. So, if you can’t wait for the first snowfall to find your own sled hill, Snow Creek’s snow machines help it to open in mid December.
Kansas City’s Restaurant Week, January 12-21, features delectable menus from 150+ local restaurants and is an excuse to indulge in old favorites or to taste something new. Proceeds benefit featured charities and groups throughout the metro, making this activity an all around favorite.
Winter in Kansas City is indeed magical and there is so much to do, yet there is nothing greater than sharing or donating your time, clothes, or food to help others look forward to spending winter in Kansas City.
