- buy a health insurance plan, buying health insurance, kansas city
If you’re in the market and shopping for a health insurance policy under the ACA (Obamacare), you might be making a critical mistake without even realizing it. Specifically, if you’re buying health insurance in Kansas City, you’ll need to be aware of your options and you should know that not all plans are created equal. Healthcare.gov plans in Kansas City carry some important details that not all shoppers are aware of which means, which means you need health insurance help in Kansas City! Which brings us back to that critical mistake I mentioned earlier, which is shopping for coverage without assistance from a licensed agent.
Health Insurance Has Different Options
Health insurance is complex. We all know that. And under Obamacare, it’s even more complex. There are now more moving parts with health insurance plans than there ever has been; plan design differences, network restrictions, enrollment periods, enrollment deadlines, special enrollment periods, subsidies, government websites, etc., etc. etc. Bottom line, it’s a LOT to keep track of. Yet everyday we talk to people that make health insurance mistakes in Kansas City, buying this complex product on their own even though a misstep can literally cost thousands of dollars. In most cased, people don’t realize there are licensed agents that sell health insurance and specialize in being experts on the topic. Just like you have an agent for your home and automobile policies, you should have a health insurance agent as well. If you’re buying a health insurance plan without an agent, you’re running the risk of buying coverage that you don’t fully understand and if you make a mistake, you could cost yourself dearly. For example, let’s say you purchase a plan without realizing you’re buying a limited network plan (these plans are very common under Obamacare). You could find yourself in a situation where you have to seek treatment outside of your restricted network and out-of-network exposure on certain policies can be over $20,000 in a year! Many people don’t realize this and they wouldn’t unless they had a knowledgeable agent consulting them and explaining the nuances of the available plans. While these types of plans are appropriate for some people, our office fielded countless calls from people who purchased these plans on their own, unintentionally. Luckily they consulted with us before it was too late and we were able to fix their mistake. There are also levels of exposure within different health insurance plans that people don’t always understand because they buy on their own without getting assistance. Unfortunately, people don’t realize their plan might not cover something they need it to until it’s too late.
Before Your Buy A Health Insurance Plan
So before you buy a plan or even begin the shopping process, find an agent to work with. Most agents don’t charge a fee for assistance so you’re able to get free consultation and free enrollment assistance. Who wouldn’t want that? The other element an agent can provide is help throughout the year. Good agents are available year around and provide their clients with service and assistance on the policy whenever they need it.
